With an appreciation of the power of music to positively influence lives, Stott Hoare has financially supported West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO) and its programs since 2001. As a Sonata Partner, we have contributed towards the continued provision of a world-class professional orchestra for the WA community who deliver special music education and outreach programs to schools, hospitals and communities across the state.
It is proven that music affects the brain and mood by engaging emotion, memory, learning and neuroplasticity, and attention. (source) Many years ago in Venezuela, the visionary musician and economist José Antonio Abreu established music learning centres, El Sistema. Since 1975 children living in impoverished or otherwise challenged circumstances gather daily to play and sing together in orchestral and choral ensembles. El Sistema’s mission is fundamentally social in nature. The experience of immersive, ambitious and joyful music-making together can help young people develop not only musical mastery but also self-esteem, mutual respect and cooperative skills, qualities that can change their lives and the lives of their families and communities. In 2019, WASO’s Education and Community Engagement program plans to deliver more than 600 performances, workshops, events and artist development activities to over 200,000 people across WA. Stott Hoare is proud to be a long-standing financial sponsor.
“Growing up my mother ensured that music was a major part of lives and always audible in my father’s newsagency. As a child, I never thought about music’s impact on my mind and moods. However, later in life, I learnt of the enormous benefits of playing and experiencing music! For this and many other reasons, I have great gratitude for my mother and her wisdom.
One of my favourite conductors is Gustavo Dudamel, who is the current musical director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Gustavo had his musical beginnings in El Sistema. He once commented, “music saved my life and has saved the lives of thousands of at-risk children in Venezuela…like food, like health care, like education, music has to be a right for every citizen.” For exactly this reason, we support WASO to provide opportunities throughout our community especially those who may not have the means to easily access live music.” – Jim Loader, Managing Director Stott Hoare
“From a young age, WASO provided my window into the remarkable world of music, as it does for so many West Australians. Stott Hoare, along with all of our sponsors enable WASO to grow and build on our long-standing traditions and spread the love of music to the community.” – Mark Coughlan Chief Executive Officer, West Australian Symphony Orchestra
As WASO sponsors, Stott Hoare provides opportunities for our staff and clients to attend performances throughout the year. If you are interested in attending a performance, please advise your account manager so that we can organise.
